Choosing a Puppy
Finding the right puppy is never easy. Most breeders have waiting lists of people waiting for puppies.
Temperament & Character
The word most often used to describe the temperament of a Dogue de Bordeaux is “balanced”.
This French Mastiff Dogue is completely devoted to it’s family and extremely affectionate. DDB are very adaptable and have a high stimulus threshold – in short Dogue de Bordeaux is a very sweet and even tempered Dogue. What is most important is that you socialize your Dogue de Bordeaux puppy early on or they can become somewhat reserved with strangers and even aggressive with other animals if they are not properly trained. On the other hand – a completely socialized Dogue de Bordeaux is not only well behaved with other animals – children but even with strangers.
Another huge hallmark of this wonderful breed is their natural penchant for being playful. An owner of more than one Dogue de Bordeaux owner MUST be prepared for a house full of literally re-arranged furniture! In spite of their calm and somewhat tranquil disposition – Dogue’s make excellent patrol dogs and protection owing to their territorial nature. They are very intelligent and are well tuned into their environment and will respond to a threat instinctively.
